So you want to apply? Sounds great!

We begin accepting applications at the start of the academic year for positions beginning the following academic year. In other words, the applications we accepted starting in July 2021 were for the fellow that began her program in July 2022. Most applicants are starting their final year of residency when they apply. While we do not have a hard stop date for accepting applications, we must receive it with enough time to schedule an interview before NRMP rank lists are due, thus by early October is recommended.

Application

The application itself is simple and straight forward. We do not participate in ERAS, so simply send the following materials to our coordinator, Allyson Hemsley:

  • Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • A personal statement (roughly 1 page long), generally covering the topics of your background/interest in EMS and why you have decided to do a fellowship

  • At least two Letters of Recommendation

    • One must be from your residency Program Director

    • While not specifically required, it is recommended that another be from an EMS physician with whom you have worked

Interview

We like to meet out applicants in person for their interview, as it allows us to get to know you a little better and to show off our program directly! As such, we have set interview dates for in person interviews. We also will offer some virtual interviews for applicants who simply cannot make it to Chattanooga, though we would certainly prefer to meet you in person. The current schedule for interviews is:

Monday, Sept 8, 2025: in person
Monday, Sept 22, 2025: in person
Monday, Sept 29, 2025: virtual
Monday, Oct 13, 2025: in person

For those able to make the trip to Chattanooga, you may be the only applicant present or may be one of a few present on the same day. Allyson will work on scheduling the day with you once your application is received, and it’ll simply depend on the applicants we receive and when each is able to make the trip. Again, virtual is an option if necessary, and we have a bit more flexibility to potentially schedule a different virtual interview date than the one above if needed.
